This book reminded me why I worked with domestic violence victims. It opened up my heart to Christi & all she went thru. As a Survivor, I believe that the verbal & mental abuse was worse than the physical. It tore me down & stripped me of my self-worth & my personality. I was lost, but today I am FOUND.

Thank you Christi for your openness and honesty! This book allows us personal insight into a life of an abuse victim and how she overcame without the victim mentality. It brings us to an understanding of the love and value that God has for our lives regardless of the people and the experiences that our choices have led us into. This story shows us a way to cope with the guilt that often overwhelms us, especially Christian women who believe they have to stay in a marriage because it is what God wants, and walk in victory that God has for us. This book is full of the word of God teaching us to see our worth through God's eyes and changing the way we think to align with his thoughts.

Very emotional book. I felt like I had been put right back in my own situation. Even though they were different, they were so much alike. I like how she hit on the point that people "overlook" verbal abuse. How you almost have to be physically abused for people to condone your reason for leaving. How people stand behind God and say, "You made a vow!" Yes, I did, but that does not mean I can be verbally attacked on a constant basis and live in fear of that verbal abuse. Society, does not understand the severity of emotional/verbal abuse. It really messes with your head and stays with you longer than the argument. The turmoil you go through when you finally realize it's over. How you "do" hurt because you don't want your spouse to hurt. It's such a warped sense of understanding, unless you have actually lived through this. Then you move out, and the peace you feel is so indescribable. The eggshells you no longer walk on, is liberating. You do go through guilt, because you wonder how you allowed yourself to be in this sitation to begin with. How did I not see it? Others did....why didn't I? You do lose friends, but were they really friends? The unexpected people who support you is the biggest surprise. There is still a lot I'm dealing with and working out, but her book really helped heal a lot of places in my heart. I think it is great for someone who is going through this, has gone through it, or knows someone who is/has gone through it. More people need to be aware of how severe verbal abuse is. Words hurt, they stick with us. Yes, we are in charge of how we let those words mess with our head, but most people are generally not that strong at first. Thank you Christi, for sharing your story with me. I'm so glad you finally found happiness and joy!

This is a heart wrenching story of how difficult verbal abuse can be and how it destroys the victim. The author does a good job of articulating the emotional conflict and the difficulties she encountered in trying to deal with her own enabling and the difficulty of becoming enough of her own person so she could eventually end the marriage. I was moved by the fact that through all of her difficulties she was always concerned about Justin and how he would come through this. The reader has to be impressed by the fact that when Christi allowed herself to listen to her faith and live it she was able to see what her decision needed to be. Not a light read but it deals with an important subject and how one person was able to recover.

I couldn’t put the book down. As I read I found so much of what she was experiencing different but her words hitting home like a Mack truck. I wrote down her insights in a journal for me to go back to later to reflect on. So much of what I needed in a moment in life where I was confused and feeling broken and lost. Thank you.

My sister told me about this book as I am going through a divorce. It's amazing to see myself so much in this book. When you are living this kind of life you don't realize it and reading the book really makes you realize you must get out! I know it's the hardest thing I had to do in my life but this book really helps. It not only helps you to understand your feelings but also helps you get over the fact you can't make anyone but yourself change and although I never wanted to get divorced, this book give me hope for the life I still have to live and made me realize I'm not alone! Thank you for the great book!

Christi seems like a sweetheart and I love her kind personality. As an abuse survivor, I was a little taken back that she seemed to skim over a lot... did not go into great detail, and it became very mundane to read. I am not discounting her abuse in any way, but mine, as well as others, was much more violent and cruel. She was abused, no doubt, but I felt she didn't reveal the true side of abuse... I felt it was being hid, and she had not opened up her soul. I thought it was going to be more honest than it was...

This book was a difficult one to read emotionally. As one who has experienced abusive relationships in the past it gave me a feeling of not being alone in my experiences. Yes smart successful women get themselves into troubled relationships just like everyone else.Christi Paul looks back with brutal honesty and with the clarity of 20/20 hindsight, pointing out warning signs that are so easy to see in other people's relationships and so hard to see in your own.It gives one hope for the future in the sense that you can overcome this and have healthier relationships with others.
