Whew! This book is all over the place. The book one sample didn’t impress me overmuch, but I was looking for a series, and when I noticed this was a 3-volume series, I decided to give it a try. Volume 1 was reasonably enjoyable - a decent story arc and character development. Volume 2 started out a bit shakey, but settled down and was a pretty good read...until the end, that is. The finale in this volume is so far removed from the story line it just felt jarringly bad, like the last minute inspiration of an author who’s stuck for an ending. And the ‘bolted on’ plot line with another character seems unrelated the the main protagonist and plot. I’m sure ‘all will be revealed’ in volume 3 - if I can force myself to even start it, let alone finish. Think I’ll take a break from Mark and crew for a few days.

I have been fortunate to be allowed early access to both this book's and its predecessor's manuscript. Although I was given early access to the manuscript, I bought my own copy of this book. The author did not give me a copy if this book in trade for a review. The author was kind enough to consider my editing suggestions, and even gave me a shout at the beginning of this book. This book is significantly better than the first of the series. The author learned from many of his mistakes in the first book, and took a lot of the creative criticism to heart. The characters in this book are better fleshed out and do not seem like shallow two dimensional props for the main character. Good action throughout the book with minimal wasted ink on writing that does not advance the story. I really like the Ahnix and Vale characters (I have always had a soft spot for naga for some reason) but still do not really care for Roo. In this book Roo is better fleshed out and does not appear as the irritating sidekick the main characters can't get rid of. Some good suspense in this book and good cliffhangers where you were not sure what was going to happen. I love the fact that this author placed a giant naga in the snow and in a unique setting at the ending - a first for a naga I believe. I look forward to the next book in the series and hope that the author will be kind enough to let me read the early manuscript again.

After being stranded in the erotic VR game, Crystal Heart, Mark (no lastname yet) received the power from the game's damaged AI to heal the tearsin "reality" (code damage), and gathered a battle-harem to do that.They have had some success doing that, but at the end of the last book foundthat Mark's old helper-AI, now evil, is still active in the game and doingfresh damage. Fortunately they have now completed enough side quests tostart on the main problem of finding the sundered pieces of the titularCrystal Heart, and once more joining them.As before, this book rides the porn side of the porn/erotica divide, but isgenerally well done. Mark's harem all have distinct personalities andabilities, and while the sex scenes are frequent, they do manage to come offas loving, and don't detract much from the main quest.In this book, the girls come face to face with the fact that they arecreated and artificial non-player-characters, the ramifications of whichstart off as "not good", and will probably build from there. The end ofthe quest also reveals that all is *definitely* not as it seems, and involvesa genre shift reminiscent of the "Lord Chuckles Seizes the Narrator" episodeof Dave The Barbarian (though of course with more sex). It's currently notclear how they, and Mark can have a happy ending, but I trust that somethinginvolving the bad situation back in the real world (which we see briefly ina prologue) might work out in their favor.

Sequels are frequently disappointing, but not "Picking Up the Pieces". I greatly enjoyed the first book, but book2 far surpassed my expectations. The characterization is notably improved - each character possesses depth of character independent of their relationship to Mark - and the twist at the end is wonderfully executed. This book took me on a journey through many peaks and valleys: quite an enriching experience. It also raises a number of questions about human-synthetic relationships; the annihilation of purpose and subsequent existential crises are always compelling.

Simply amazing! I loved the characters, the plot, and the erotica. There were one or two fade-to-black, like what Roo and Vale did with their alone time, but overall the love-making scenes were amazing! I love how it’s a true harem and they do stuff to each other. I’m kind of disappointed his harem maxed at three. I was kind of hoping he had a glitch that gave him more or at the very least he got a few extra girls to hang out. Like the commander or queen popping in for a romp here or there.I got to give it 4 stars because there were a few spelling and syntax errors. Not a lot, but I noticed more in this one than the first. One scene near the end he gave his girls “...an organism...” When it was supposed to “orgasm.” That made me laugh.Can’t wait to find out what the team does to each other in the next one!

More sex than needed, caused me to get bored and stop reading more often than normal. Although truthfully author does write the best such scenes of anything in the harem genre I've read. At the end the plot turns out to be pretty meta, a good surprise that will lead to this great team having more adventures. One very good move author made that I really hope he sticks too...he didnt expand the harem after three. Good move, it would have diluted the whole love thing. Its a good team as is and enjoyable to adventure with. Looking forward to the next space adventure!
